Martin will talk briefly about the development of server virtualisation from its inception in the 1960s as a way of sharing scarce resources, through improving the competitive standing of Unix machines in the 1990s, VMWare and consolidation in the early 2000s, to its current status as the foundation of Cloud Computing. He will share ITCandor’s latest sizing in terms of the number of virtual machines and the market shares of leading vendors. He will focus on the key questions IT Managers should be asking as vendors push server virtualisation.
