Case Studies
Countrywide Plc
Countrywide plc is the UK’s largest provider of property related finance and professional services. The company has offices throughout the country, as well as agents and surveyors working on the move seven days a week. So, it’s safe to say that Countrywide has a big operation in place.
Countrywide did not want to rest on its laurels; it saw huge growth in the lettings market and expected this to continue. The company needed to ensure that it had a rock solid platform to facilitate this growth. In addition it wanted to consolidate the separate businesses across the group, onto a single, faster, more resilient network. Including remote working technology was also essential, as agents and surveyors needed fast access to the network outside the office walls.
By working with Virgin Media Business to put this network in place, Countrywide has not only improved its customer service, helping it to carve out a competitive advantage, but has also saved a significant amount of money in the long run.

Getting connected
We worked with Countrywide to find out exactly what it needed and then set about developing a single resilient network that was able to connect over 5000 employees across 350 sites. An IP Virtual Private Network (IPVPN) service was installed, complimented by Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).
Bringing benefits
Countrywide’s bandwidth has tripled since the installation, giving it the flexibility to create new applications such as the centralised financial lettings application, which gives customers a faster and more personalised service. Staff also benefit as the application makes reporting and property tracking a lot easier.
The new remote working capability has allowed surveyors to do 'same day surveys' using tablet PCs. Survey reports are now sent straight to the office, ready to be reviewed, which saves time on admin and speeds up the house buying process.
The new network has already saved Countrywide approximately £1 million and a further £3 million savings will be made as Countrywide looks to add to the network with other applications and services.
How did we do?
Well we will leave it to Ian Streeter, Head of Infrastructure at Countrywide plc to sum up the results:
“Having witnessed the benefits the new network brought to one business area, we’ve started rolling it out across the wider group. We’re also looking at the benefits of running voice over the network and how the remaining business areas could benefit from adopting the IPVPN”.
Inverclyde Council
On the banks of the River Clyde, Inverclyde is a picturesque area with a population of
82,000. Once home to a thriving ship building industry, the region is now undergoing a major
regeneration project to improve work and leisure opportunities. Our high speed network
provides the ideal communication platform to support this programme, alongside many more

Moving towards convergence - How Next Generation Networks smooth the way
The background story
The advantages of converged voice and data platforms have been discussed by businesses and telecoms providers for some years now. These include:
• Simplified network management and lower costs. With everything running on a single platform, it’s much easier to maintain than different infrastructures, which is good news for any bottom line.
• Improved productivity. By being able to offer a workforce innovative IP-based applications and tools, people can work more effectively, and increase competitive advantage too.
Why has convergence come of age now?

Business Continuity - We can help you prepare for the unexpected
Stay in the game
Your business continuity strategy could mean the difference between life and death for your business.
Did you know that 80% of small to medium-sized organisations fail within 18 months of experiencing a major network problem.1 And 90% of those that lose data in a disaster are forced to shut within two years.2 These figures may be worrying, but they’re also preventable.
When it comes to protecting your network and data, we’re always on hand to help you create a strategy that meets your needs. We’ll make sure you’re fully prepared to keep any impact to a minimum, and we’ll get you back up and running quickly in the case of any emergency.

The bandwidth explosion - Stay ahead of the curve
New demands deserve a new approach
The way businesses operate and communicate has changed hugely over the past decade. Take a moment to think about the constant flow of information that’s needed across any organisation, at any time of the day.
Ensuring that everyone has consistent access to email and the internet just isn’t enough these days. Employees also expect to be able to run media-rich and performance-sensitive tools. For example, Voice over IP, video conferencing and IP CCTV applications, to name but a few.
Equipping staff with smarter business tools helps everyone work more efficiently, communicate better and share information more easily. All of which adds up to a sharper competitive edge for any business. But the resulting demand for bandwidth is increasing constantly, and with developments such as cloud computing, it won’t be slowing down anytime soon.
Network Managers have never been under such pressure to re-evaluate their network architectures, and realign their capabilities with these shifting work practices. But they also need to do it all quickly, and within budget. And that’s no mean feat.

Information Security
Let’s face it. Your data is precious. You don’t want to think it’s safe as it flies across your network – you want to know it’s safe. We understand that. That’s why information security is top of our priority list. You wouldn’t want it any other way.
The safety of your data is paramount. That’s what drives us. So you’ll be pleased to know that many of our products are compliant with ISO27001 – the international standard for Information Security Management Systems. And we’re working hard to make sure that all of our products receive the same accolade. So you can rest assured that all your data is safe at all times.
You can also take comfort in the fact that we hold certification for ISO9001 and ISO14001, the recognised standard for Quality Management and Environmental Management respectively. These overlap with ISO27001 and mean that you can be sure we’ll provide you with a consistent and sustainable service right across our organisation. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Public Sector Network
As a public sector organisation, you face change on a scale rarely seen before.
You’re being asked to become more efficient, more focused on citizens and more responsive. Collectively, you’re also expected to deliver over £6bn in savings.
Delivering more for less
Today, we believe that ‘shared services’ and Next Generation Networks have a big contribution to make in meeting this age of austerity head-on. Rather than cutting costs by slashing services, they provide an opportunity to actually deliver more services, for less spend.
With high-speed fibre optic networks, there’s no reason why the ‘shared service’ model can’t be truly embraced. For example, if local authorities shared their data centre services, cost savings could be made and the inconvenience of putting multiple independent backups in place
could be removed. In a similar way, sharing networks themselves would drive efficiencies.
