Google’s business case for WAN optimization
Total Economic Impact™ Of Silver Peak’s WAN Optimization SolutionIn December 2009, Silver Peak commissioned Forrester Consulting to examine the total economic impact and potential return on investment (ROI) that enterprises may realize by deploying Silver Peak’s Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization solution. This solution is comprised of one or more NX appliances being installed at each endpoint on the WAN and is used to reduce bandwidth requirements, speed the transmission of data between locations, and improve overall application performance. This study illustrates the financial impact of moving from an un-optimized WAN fordata transport to implementing the Silver Peak WAN optimization solution.

Silver Peak Value Proposition
Who is Silver Peak?
Silver Peak develops data center class network appliances that maximize WAN performance while minimizing WAN costs. The company’s unique network approach to WAN optimization delivers unprecedented scalability and flexibility, enabling enterprises to rapidly move large amounts of data across long distances.
Silver Peak’s award winning NX appliances are standalone devices that seamlessly fit into any enterprise network, scaling from Mbps to Gbps of WAN capacity. They use real-time network optimization techniques to overcome common bandwidth, latency, and quality changes inherent to most WAN environments.
VX appliances are software-only versions of NX appliances. They support all the same optimization features as their NX counterparts, but in a virtualized manner. By deploying Silver Peak’s VX family of appliances on any platform of choice, enterprises reap all the cost and flexibility benefits of server virtualization.
Silver Peak’s VRX appliances are virtual WAN optimization devices designed specifically for data center-to-data center initiatives, such as data replication, data migration, and disaster recovery. They deliver the highest end-to-end throughput of any virtual WAN optimization device and are proven compatible with all leading storage solutions.

Silver Peak's WAN Technology Overview
An overview of Silver Peak's WAN Acceleration TechnologyUnderstanding WAN Challenges Every Wide Area Network (WAN) connection has unique challenges. In some instances, there is simply not enough bandwidth. In other instances, the bandwidth that does exist cannot be utilized effectively because packets are being dropped and/or delivered out-of-order (a problem common in MPLS and IP VPN deployments).
In still other scenarios, the biggest challenge is WAN latency, as long distances and "chatty" protocols make it difficult to communicate in real-time. Bandwidth, latency,
loss all have an impact on "effective throughput" across the WAN. As a result, large enterprises must deploy a WAN acceleration solution that is capable of handling all three of these challenges in a secure and scalable manner. Silver Peak has the technology capable of achieving that objective. Read more in the attached file.
