Case Studies

Invensys APV deploys Allot Bandwidth Management

The Invensys Group had identified a need to enhance security on their WAN and also wanted to find out more about network use and status. By deploying Allot NetEnforcers, Invensys have been able to identify applications that should not have been running across the WAN and take the necessary corrective action. They can now manage overused circuits, track usage, block or limit web streaming and have the granular applications control that the project required.

Whitepapers

IP Performance White Paper - Alcatel-Lucent VPN Firewall Brick Partitions for Hosted Environments

Telco and Service Providers offering managed services to ʻVirtualʼ Service Providers (VSP) or Enterprise customers commonly suffer issues wherein multiple hardware devices are required to provide those customers contracted services whilst maintaining both security and segmentation across the true physical environment.

In this White Paper, Andy Millett, IP Performance support engineer and security product specialist, sets out how the Alcatel-Lucent Brick firewall and SMS solution can be used to create multiple secure, scalable and highly-available virtual firewalls, and how Telcos and ISPs can then offer VSPs multiple partitioned environments as managed services.

Avocent White Paper - Power Distribution Considerations for Data Center Racks

This paper discusses the considerations that need to be made while choosing the appropriate power distribution products at the rack level. Interestingly enough, several of these considerations also help data centre operators manage and control the largest portion of data centre power consumption, which are the actual IT loads.

Avocent White Paper: Managing the Virtualized Data Center - Avocent’s Role in VMware-Enabled Environments

Many IT organisations are, to varying degrees, implementing VMware technology to create multiple virtual servers on selected physical servers. Use of these virtual servers provides a variety of benefits – including reduced capital spending on hardware, reduced demands on power and cooling capacity, and more flexible allocation of processing capacity.

This article discusses tools and approaches that can be used to both overcome the limitations of VMware’s tools and also to manage the complexity within a partially virtualised data centre, concluding that these approaches will also enable virtualisation to be more broadly deployed.

BlueCat Networks White Paper - Realising secure networks by overcoming complexity: The Proteus IP Address Management System

The continual increase of complexity, and the adoption of Voice over IP (VoIP) on many corporate networks, has meant that most enterprise and carrier-class networks now require the additional management overhead previously only found in the largest networks. This management need is further compounded by the requirement for corporations to explore or implement IPv6 compatible networks to ensure capacity and service over the next decade. VoIP integrations generally double the number of IP addresses inside some networks simply due to the fact that each user with a computer has a phone. Management of IP resources can be severely restricted by inadequate design in the provisioning of IP space and services that can directly impact corporate growth. Existing IP Address Management (IPAM) solutions on the market are typically software-based and require extensive installation and integration, coupled with licensing expenses, yielding a solution that is outside most corporate budgets. Manual or home grown solutions to tackle IP address management often fall short and carry a high cost associated with labor-intensive processes and knowledge transfer.
BlueCat Networks, a leader in dedicated DNS and DHCP appliances, has developed its Proteus IPAM Appliance to help organizations design and scale IP networks effectively. This white paper describes a system which was designed to integrate DNS and IP as well as moving other important components such as deployment and server management into their own components in a unique “Multi-Core” architecture, and which represents a new level of business-driven interactive network control and monitoring that brings IPAM into conformance with business requirements.

BlueCat Networks White Paper - Getting Ready for IPv6: Six Things You Need to Know to Prepare for the Transition

IPv6 is the next-generation Internet Protocol and is designated as the
successor to IPv4, which has been the Internet’s main communication
protocol for over 20 years. With IPv4 address space almost depleted, the
move to IPv6 is necessary to allow the Internet – and the global economy
it supports – to continue to grow.
The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 will be a significant network changeover and
a milestone in the history of the Internet. The design, implementation and
configuration of IPv6 networks will be a complex process, requiring significant
changes to current communication systems and management processes. Not
only will IPv6 involve a significant overhaul to existing infrastructure, it will also
require a new approach to how IP address space is managed.
This white paper will look at what you need to know to get ready for IPv6 and
dispel some of the common myths surrounding the new protocol. You will
read about the business case for transitioning to IPv6 and the practical steps
you need to take now to prepare. We will also discuss the role of IP Address
Management (IPAM) in ensuring a smooth and successful transition.

Bluecat Networks

Smart, Simple, Scalable IP Address Management

Bluecat Networks specialise in dedicated DNS and DHCP server appliances, and in IPAM (IP Address Management) Solutions. Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and related services like DNS and DHCP have become the foundation of today's modern, complex IP voice and data networks. Without IP addresses and DHCP/DNS, there is no network and business would be crippled or worse. In the past 10 years organizations of all sizes have employed simplistic approaches and primitive tools to manage, monitor and administer IP addresses and services. They required constant manual intervention, while still failing to provide audit and reporting capabilities needed to truly manage the network. With growing volume, the complexity of hybrid server networks, the addition of diverse IP devices and applications to the network, administrators needed a pro-active, automated approach to IP address management (IPAM).
