Ethernet Fabric Helps Leading Media Group Pave Way for Virtual Data Center

De Persgroep reaps benefits of Brocade VDX 6720 Data Center Switches by improving network utilization and performance, while laying the foundation for migration to clouds.

More than 1.6 billion people globally read a hardcopy newspaper each day, and publishing houses must ensure that they can cope with continued demand while leveraging their revenue opportunities, expected to be worth $120 billion per year. In an effort to take advantage of these opportunities, Brussels-based media group, De Persgroep, has turned to Brocade (Nasdaq: BRCD) to deploy Europe’s first Ethernet fabric switching solution to manage out of control data growth, so it can continue to deliver hard-hitting news to its 1.5 million daily readers.

“Selecting Brocade was an easy decision. In its Ethernet fabric solution we didn’t find a class-leading solution, but a total revelation. In just a short-period of time we have noticed a marked improvement in network performance. Backup failures have disappeared and the fabric architecture has increased utilization and reliability, while simplifying management by an order of magnitude. In addition, as we look to accelerate our virtualization strategy, this approach provides virtual machines a greater sphere of mobility and gives us a blueprint for future growth.”

Ethernet Fabrics and Brocade VCS Technology: Networking for the Virtualized Data Center

As data centers evolve to a world where information and applications can move anywhere in the cloud, classic Ethernet with its hierarchical architecture also has to evolve to a new data center “Ethernet fabric.”

How Will the Change in Internet Addresses Affect Your Business?

The Internet has become indispensible for business and government world-wide not to mention the estimated 2 billion individuals who connect to it every day. This enormous popularity has lead to near depletion of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses needed to uniquely identify each device using the Internet. Running out of Internet addresses would have disastrous worldwide consequences, as the ability to add and connect new devices would come to a halt. A new and much larger type of address known as IPv6 avoids this issue. But the IPv6 address is not compatible with the current address type. Further, it’s not possible or economically desirable to replace all networking equipment and all devices to IPv6 all at once. What’s needed are solutions that allow IPv6 to co-exist with the existing IP address type, IPv4, and for electronic information using one address type to be delivered to devices using the other. This paper will help you better understand what IPv6 is, why address exhaustion does not impact all businesses and regions the same, and what the options are for peaceful co-existence of IPv6 with IPv4 on the internet.

What Is an Ethernet Fabric?

Compared to classic hierarchical Ethernet architectures, Ethernet fabrics provide the higher levels of performance, utilization, availability and simplicity required to meet the business needs of data centers today and into the future.

Scalable Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Using Brocade’s CloudPlex Architecture

This paper describes how Brocade’s CloudPlex architecture enables large-scale deployment of virtual desktop infrastructure: tens of thousands of desktops on a global scale. It identifies the challenges in the data center, campus LAN and wide area networks that need to be considered and reviews how key elements of the CloudPlex architecture including fabrics, open systems and global reach, effectively meet these challenges.
